The Elite Bookshelf Speakers are suitable for use as both front-channel and rear-channel speakers in the most sophisticated surround-sound system. While most bookshelf speakers compromise performance with a two-way design that requires the bass driver to reproduce a range of frequencies beyond its capabilities, Andrew Jones has designed the Elite Bookshelf Speakers to be a true, three-way design, so each major frequency band is represented with a separate high-, midrange and low-frequency driver.
A Pioneer product has to be special to carry the Elite name, and the latest Elite Home Theater Speakers are just that. From the brilliant mind of Andrew Jones—Pioneer’s and TAD’s Chief Speaker Engineer—these are the first cabinet speakers bearing the Elite brand in more than a decade. They are designed to take advantage of advancements in engineering, transducer technology and of course, groundbreaking Dolby Atmos sound.
Delivering a sound experience far exceeding their price, the Elite Home Theater Speakers have been designed as a complete system for Dolby Atmos. Together, they offer an unbeatable value-to-performance ratio for putting together a high-performance 5.1.4-channel surround sound system.
At the heart of the Elite Home Theater Speaker System is the CST (Coherent Source Transducer), a revelation in accurate sound. This driver dramatically reduces interference between the midrange and tweeter, precisely controlling sound directivity at all frequencies and ensuring that direct and reflected sound arrive at the listening position with identical timing and timbre. It does this with a 1-inch tweeter positioned centrally at the apex of the 4-inch midrange drive unit. Unlike a coaxial driver, which positions its high-frequency driver further forward of a larger cone, the CST concentric design eliminates audible time domain errors that cannot be avoided when drivers are not aligned on the same axial or vertical plane. Such distortion that is normally readily apparent but is virtually eliminated in the sophisticated, proprietary CST used in the Elite Home Theater Speaker range.
The 1-inch soft-dome tweeter delivers smooth, extended response, positioned in the center of an aluminum midrange cone that exhibits true pistonic action and eliminates break-up modes within its range of operation. Cone profile is optimized for both midrange performance and wave-guide directivity. A matching horn around the tweeter seamlessly integrates both drivers and creates a continuous surface for the expansion of sound waves. Driving both transducers are dual Neodymium magnets that provide powerful and stable flux fields in their gaps. The midrange cone terminates in a double-roll surround designed to minimize wave front disruption while also allowing maximum excursion of the midrange cone.
Critical to the realism and authority of the Elite Home Theater Speakers is bass response that delivers all the power and impact of the most challenging music and film. Developing a driver that seamlessly integrates with mid- and high frequencies is a particular challenge: large drivers can be too slow and smaller ones may fail to convey weight and substance. The 5¼-inch aluminum cone and dust cap of these woofers ensures true pistonic action, eliminating break-up modes within their operating range. A large diameter vented pole piece allows unrestricted airflow under the dust cap, reducing unwanted noise caused by turbulent air. An oversized magnet ensures greater bass control, while a 1½-inch long throw voice coil improves power handling for full, dynamic bass.
Of course, even the best speakers can’t create the startling realism and holographic sense of height and air of a Dolby Atmos recording or soundtrack, unless they’re engineered specifically for the task. That’s why both floorstanding and bookshelf Elite Home Theater Speakers are equipped with a vertically-firing Dolby Atmos-enabled driver. To maximize the performance capabilities of Dolby Atmos, the Elite Home Theater Speakers utilize Pioneer’s high-performance two-way CST to achieve the highest performance for the most accurate, uniform sound.
The Elite Home Theater Speakers include such details as Gold-plated connectors and multi-element, complex crossovers. Cabinets of floorstanding, bookshelf and center-channel speakers are designed with gently curved sides to eliminate standing waves encountered in typical square-box designs. The CST driver is mounted in its own individual enclosure, isolating it from the pressure waves in the main enclosure. The black-finished cabinet integrates perfectly with contemporary and traditional interiors, while a small footprint allows flexible placement in the room.
Using the Pioneer Elite Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers you will need the following in order to use the Dolby Atmos-enabled capability of these speakers, the listening room ceiling should have horizontal flat hard surface (for audio reflection) and a height of 8’ to 14’.
In addition to a Dolby Atmos compatible speaker set up, you must have a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver/processor and Dolby Atmos encoded content.
