Epson PowerLite 580 XGA 3LCD Ultra-Short-Throw Projector
- 3200 Lumens White/Color Brightness
- XGA (1024 x 768) Native Resolution
- Ultra-Short 0.3 to 0.4:1 Throw Ratio
- Dual HDMI, VGA, & Analog Video Inputs
The PowerLite 580 XGA 3LCD Ultra-Short-Throw Projector from Epson is designed for use in classroom settings, and is an ideal companion for digital whiteboards and document cameras. It outputs 3200 lumens and features a 1024 x 768 (XGA) native resolution and a 4:3 native aspect ratio - through letterboxing and scaling can accept a range of other input resolutions up to 1600 x 900 (WXGA++), though loss of quality may result. Falling into the ultra-short-throw category, the PowerLite 580 features a throw ratio of 0.3 to 0.4:1 (digital zoom only) - this means, for example, at 12" from the screen or whiteboard it can throw a 93" diagonal image.
The projector features a number of inputs for the greatest flexibly. There is a VGA input paired with a mirrored VGA loop-out for computers with analog graphics cards and analog document cameras. Two HDMI inputs are provided for newer computers, Blu-ray players, and other HDTV-compatible equipment. And there is a Composite and S-Video input for use with standard definition analog devices such as VCRs and camcorders. A USB type A port allows the projector to show "PC-less" presentations from a USB storage device and is compatible with many document cameras that have USB output. A USB type B port allows the projector to be connected to a computer, as an alternative to using VGA or HDMI - using USB may impact the quality of video because of bandwidth limitations.
The projector can be controlled directly from surface buttons. However, since it will typically be wall or ceiling mounted, an IR remote is included which can be picked up from the back or front of the projector. For remote operation, even from another location, there is an Ethernet port and an RS-232 serial port. With Ethernet the projector can be accessed through a Web browser, and it is possible to stream presentations to it using the iProjection App or use the Multi-PC Collaboration feature. RS-232, meanwhile, allows it to be controlled from automaton systems such as Crestron RoomView.
