Features

TheURSA 4K v2 Digital Cinema Camerawith active EF Mount fromBlackmagic Designfeatures a form factor that is designed to make it flexible enough to use on productions of all sizes. From a single operator all the way up to a full camera crew. At the heart of the imaging system, URSA 4K features a 3840 x 2160p resolution, global shutter CMOS sensor with 12 stops of dynamic range. The camera records and outputs in the 2160p format, a 16:9 standard with precisely four times the resolution of 1080p, often referred to as UltraHD.

Internally, URSA can record in the two formats. The first is 12-bit CinemaDNG RAW, a losslessly compressed RAW codec designed to give you the greatest latitude for image manipulation in post production. The second is Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), a debayered codec for easier playback and editing in a wide range of video editing applications. Additionally, ProRes also requires less storage space for extended recording times. Video is recorded to CFast 2.0 memory cards, and the camera features two slots allowing you to hot swap media for continuous, uninterrupted recording.

URSA features a 10.1", 1080p resolution flip-out LCD screen so that you won't necessarily need an on-camera monitor. Additionally, there are two 5" capacitive touchscreens, one on either side of the body. These allow you to access the menu system and can display data such as timecode and audio waveforms.

So you can edit and color correct your footage, especially footage shot in the CinemaDNG RAW format, URSA includes DaVinci Resolve software dongle for OS X and Windows.

The camera operator station features a large 10" fold out on-set monitor and separate 5 inch screen for settings, camera status, and scopes. Professional Design and Aluminum Construction
URSA features an active cooling system with low noise fan that allows it to achieve higher frame rates for longer while keeping the chassis cool. The machined aluminum design is built to incredibly robust and has been engineered with the possibility it will be handled by lots of people in mind
Version 2 Super 35 Global Shutter CMOS Sensor
The 4K resolution sensor uses a global shutter so that it will be free from the motion artifacts and flash banding experienced with rolling shutter sensors. It features a wide, 12 stop dynamic range to help ensure detail is retained even in the shadow and highlight portions of the image and to provide more information to work with in color correction. The sensor size makes it possible to recreate the shallow depth of field look popularly associated with film. At this size it is slightly larger than the APS-C DSLR format and will accommodate most lenses that cover an APS-C image circle

Additionally, the v2 sensor supports 120 fps in RAW as well as ProRes 444
Dual CFast 2.0 Card Slots
With two cards slots, it is possible to keep recording indefinitely. Simply switch over to a fresh card in the second slot and then remote the first to offload to a computer or storage device. By using CFast 2.0 media it is possible to record even at the high bitrates demanded by RAW capture without dropping frames
Built-In Scopes
URSA features scopes for exposure, focus, and audio levels. And there is a dedicated screen for camera assistants so they can check and update camera parameters independently of the camera operator
Field Upgradable Sensor
The URSA features a modular camera turret that can be removed by taking out four bolts. The camera turret includes the sensor, lens mount, and lens control connections and can be upgraded in the future when new types of sensors are developed
Broadcast Connections
Standard BNC connectors mean you don't need to worry about custom or proprietary cabling solutions. URSA features a 12G-SDI output that can be down converted to HD or used directly for full Ultra HD 4K quality. There's also a 12G-SDI input that can display return video on the 10" LCD when covering live events or working with external video sources. A separate SDI output that outputs 1080p only is available for attaching EVFs and monitors. For audio, there are two XLR inputs with +48 V phantom power. You also get timecode in and out to help synchronize with other cameras or separate audio recorders
LANC Port
A LANC is provided on a 2.5 mm sub mini connector. It allows you to control record START/STOP, iris, and focus
Supports Standard Battery Plates
Your choice of Gold Mount or V-Mount battery plates can be attached directly to the back of the camera. Alternatively, there is a 4-pin XLR input so you can use a power supply or other DC power source. The URSA also features a 4-pin XLR power output so you can power a camera mounted 12V accessory without needing an additional battery
Lots of Mounting Points
The top of the camera features a number of 3/8"-16 tapped holes so you can attach articulating arms and other mounting accessories. There are also 1/4"-20 holes along the top of the removable handle. In addition, there is a mount for 15mm LWS-spaced rods built-in to the bottom of the camera. By adding a pair of standard 15mm rods you can add accessories such as follow focus and matte box. A V-lock delta interface allows the camera to be attached to tripods using an ENG-style quick release system such as the VCT-14

Super 35 size sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range

URSA now includes a new professional digital film 4.6K image sensor that captures a spectacular 4608 x 2592 pixels with 15 stops of dynamic range! Thats larger than DCI 4K! The sensor features an incredible 15 stops of dynamic range for true digital film imaging. The wide dynamic range is dramatically better than regular video cameras or even high end broadcast cameras, so you get dramatically better images that look like true digital film. The wide dynamic range preserves detail in dark shadows as well as bright highlights so you have a wider range of brightness levels to work with when color grading in post production. The extra large Super 35 size allows for creative shallow depth of field shooting and the high resolution 12-bit lossless CinemaDNG RAW recording means you get incredible quality! You can also record HD or Ultra HD using ProRes for easy post production workflow with broadcast quality images and minimum storage requirements!

Dual Recorders for Non Stop Recording

Blackmagic URSA features dual recorders so you never need to stop recording to change media. Thats critical if you are shooting an historical event, important interview or where you just cannot stop shooting! Simply load an empty CFast card into the second recorder and when the current card is full, the recording will continue onto the second card, allowing you to change out the full card and keep shooting! The built in recorders use new CFast card technology that allow recording up to 350 MB/s for incredible speeds, perfect for high frame rate RAW recording! fold out 10 inch screen!

Say goodbye to bulky on set monitors because you get a massive fold out 10 inch screen built into Blackmagic URSA, making it the worlds biggest viewfinder! The screen is super bright so its easy to see when shooting outdoors, even in direct sunlight, plus it features an ultra wide viewing angle so you can pan and tilt to extremes and still see crystal clear images. When shooting in Ultra HD, focus becomes extremely difficult on small viewfinders, however with a massive 10 inch screen in full HD, you can see your images in amazing detail for perfect focus, framing and exposure! Because the screen tilts you can shoot down low, or high up over crowds and easily tilt the screen up or down to seeyourshot!

Two Extra 5 Touch Screens

Get full control on both sides of the camera!

URSA features the worlds most intuitive and advanced touch screen camera user interface! There are two 5 touch screens on both sides of the camera that put your settings, controls and monitoring tools at your fingertips!

The left side gives you quick access to all major settings via a touch screen and a row of control buttons, that means you dont have to hunt through complicated menus to make changes!

The right side displays settings like format, frame rate, shutter angle and more! There is a large prominent timecode display, an animated histogram for checking levels, a scrolling audio waveform monitor with clipping indicators and a spectrum scope for helping you check and adjust focus!

Broadcast Connections

Standard connections eliminates custom cables

The Blackmagic URSA features standard broadcast connections so you dont need to worry about buying expensive custom cables! You get 12G-SDI output that can be down converted to HD or used directly at amazing Ultra HD quality. Theres also a 12G-SDI input that can display return video on the 10 inch monitor when working on live events or an external video source! A separate SDI output is available for attaching external viewfinders and eye pieces. For audio, there are 2 professional XLR connections with 48v phantom power so you can use the audio industrys best quality microphones. You also get timecode in/out and a LANC connector for controlling the camera, lenses, and accessories remotely.

Broadcast Standard Power

Compatible with industry standard power supplies

URSA uses a standard 4-pin 12V to 30V XLR broadcast power connector for plugging into external power supplies. There are also mounting points and a power transfer connector for mounting third party V-Mount and Anton/Bauer gold mount back plates and batteries onto the rear of the camera itself. This means you can integrate the battery as part of the camera itself. You also get a standard 4 pin XLR 12V output power connector so you can use a wide range of third party viewfinders without needing expensive custom cables. That means its easy to integrate the camera with all of your existing gear andaccessories!

To make it super easy to bolt on your favorite accessories, Blackmagic URSA has multiple mount points all over the camera. You get standard tripod quick release attach points on the bottom of the camera, so you can use industry standard tripod mounts. The viewfinder connection uses standard power and BNC SDI connections for any type of viewfinder, plus there is standard 3/8 threaded points on the top and handle of the camera for mounting anything you like! Standard battery mounts can be bolted to the rear of the camera and you can use standard rails in the rail mounts built into the camera base. No camera is so easy to rig up for any type of production!

The optional Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder has been designed to be the perfect match for Blackmagic URSA digital film cameras. The Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder has the specifications demanded by high end cinematographers. You get a high resolution 1920 x 1080 color OLED display matched with precision glass optics, adjustable diopter and built in digital focus chart so you get perfect focus every time. To preserve OLED screen life theres a built in sensor so the OLED only turns on when youre looking through the viewfinder. The Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder is adjustable so it can be used on both the left or the right eye. Theres even a built in record light!
