Features

The Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster "S" Version from Metabones is designed to be used on Micro Four Thirds cameras with an"active" mount as opposed to those with a "passive" mount and is therefore compatible with Olympus OM-D cameras, Panasonic GH4 and the BlackmagicPocket Cinema Camera but not with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K.

This EF to MFT Speed Booster allows a full frame or APS-C Canon EF lens to be mounted to a Micro Four Thirds mount camera and in doing so,increases the angle of view by 0.71x and increases the maximum aperture one f/stop.

When a lens intended for full frame sensors or 35mm film is mounted to a camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor, it transmits a larger area oflight than the smaller sensor was built to accept and therefore the effective angle of view of the lens increases. The Speed Booster condenseslight from the lens and projects it onto the MFT sensor allowing it to utilize all of the lens' light and effectively reduces the crop factor. Acorresponding increase in the maximum aperture of one f/stop makes the lens more effective in low-light situations and able to create a shallowdepth of field.

Automatic exposure information is communicated by the speed booster and controlled from the camera body. Image stabilization on lenses that provideit is supported and EXIF data transferred as well. No external power source is required as the speed booster is powered by the camera and houses a32-bit processor.

Metabones Speed Boosters are made of precision-machined brass with chromium plating on both the camera body and the lens side of the booster inorder to ensure smooth mounting, quality aesthetic, and durability. This adapter has a detachable tripod foot that is compatible with Arca Swiss,Markins, and Photo Clam ball heads.

Allows a full frame Canon EF lens to be mounted to select Panasonic, Olympus or Blackmagic Micro Four Thirds format camera and in doing so,increases the angle of view by 0.71x and increases the maximum aperture one f/stop.
The "S" version of the EF to MFT Speed Booster is designed for Active mount Micro Four Thirds cameras and is compatible with the OlympusOM-D E-M1, E-M5 and E-M10 cameras as well as the Panasonic GH4, GH3, GH2, GH1 cameras and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.
Unlike the original EF to MFT Speed Booster, the "S" version cannot be powered by an external 5V Micro USB power supply and does not havethe jog-dial button to control aperture when using an external power supply.
Electronic integration of the camera's aperture is supported and controlled via the camera body. Autofocus is not supported but lens-basedimage stabilization is supported and EXIF data is communicated.
Third party EF mount lenses such as those by Sigma, Tamron and Tokina are compatible however third party zoom lenses may need to beregistered with the Speed Booster first in order to detect their maximum aperture.
High performance 32-bit processor and efficient switched-mode power supply is featured and the speed booster is powered by the camera body.
Precise fit and solid connection - lens has no play, gap or wiggling when mounted on speed booster and no adjustments are required to fityour lens. Both the camera-side and the lens-side of the speed booster are made of brass which is precision-machined and chrome-plated.
The Speed Booster uses matte-black treatment to keep internal reflection to a minimum in order to maintain the maximum optical qualitypossible with the lens. The exterior features a black satin surface finish.
The Speed Booster is fine-tuned to be able to focus to infinity for every combination of lens and camera body, and also to ensure optimaloptical quality with CRC or floating-element lenses. No adjustments are necessary, but some older lenses which are out of tune due to ageand some lower quality optics may not be able to focus to infinity with a Speed Booster. It is possible to adjust Speed Booster to allowfor infinity focus for these lenses by loosening the stop screw and rotating the glass elements.
The speed booster features a detachable tripod foot which is compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, Photo Clam ball heads.
EF-S lenses, M42 screw mount adapters, focus confirmation chips, lens corrections and many manual focus lenses are NOT supported. A list oftested and supported lenses can be found on the Metabones website.

    Note:

    1. Requires lenses supporting distance information.
    2. A third party zoom lens may need to be registered with the Speed Booster/Smart Adapter first in order to detect its maximum aperture.
    3. This Smart Adapter is designed to cover an 17.3mm x 13mm sensor.
    4. Some improperly-made M42 screw mount adapters may short the electronic contacts of the Smart Adapter and cause damage to the Smart Adapter and/or camera body.
    5. Many manual focus lenses (e.g. OM 28/2.8, OM 50/1.8, Leica R 15/3.5) have rear protrusions (spikes, levers, other appendages) which would damage the optics and/or housing of Smart AdapterThey need to be modified before they can be safely used on Smart Adapter. Check and make sure there are no rear protrusions from the adapter/lens combination before using on Smart Adapter. Scratches and damages caused by rear protrusions on Smart Adapter are not covered by warranty.
    6. For those passive (without electronic pin or without power supply from the camcorder) MFT camcorders, this Speed Booster Adapter can also be powered by external third-party 5 Volt MicroUSB power supply*.
      * ) third-party 5 Volt MicroUSB power supply is not provided in the box. The compatibility of 3rd party power supply can't be guaranteed.
    7. For use with fast lenses (faster than f/1.8), the pre-boost apertures will be displayed in the camera.

Slow lenses will report boosted apertures to the camera body but fast lenses will report pre-boost apertures. We won't show f/0.7 with a f/1.2 lens attached, but show f/1.2 instead.

      Example:

      a) EF 85/1.2L attached, camera display = f/1.2, physical aperture  (lens + Speed Booster combined) = f/0.74.
      b) Sigma 18-35/1.8 attached, camera display = f/1.0, physical aperture (lens + Speed Booster combined) = f/1.0.

    8. For E-M10, E-M1 and E-M5 camera, please choose Speed Booster S (more detail about Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster S - MB_SPEF-m43-BM2).

    Why Metabones®?

Since its inception, Metabones has been designing and manufacturing lens adapters recognized among professionals and enthusiasts as leaders in design and workmanship.

Contrary to the popular trend of other factories using an aluminum ring painted black on the camera-body-side, we instead take no short-cut but use precision-machined brass with chromium plating on both the camera-body and the lens sides of our adapters, in order to ensure smooth mounting, great appearance, and durability. The lens side of the adapter features a strong leaf-spring structure, strengthening the adapter-lens connection and ensuring tightness of the lens in order to reduce wear and prevent focus errors and optical alignment issues from appearing.

Metabones uses matte-black treatment to keep internal reflection to a minimum in order to maintain the maximum optical quality possible with the lens.

All Metabones Adapters follow this tradition of uncompromising precision, robust build quality and outstanding finish. Our new Smart AdapterTM series of products add industry-leading electronic interfacing technology from Canada, with true electronic control of the lens' aperture directly from the camera body.

    Features

    • Both camera-side and lens-side of the adapter are made of brass, precision-machined and plated with chromium.
    • Satin surface finish - just like your OEM lens and camera mounts.
    • Precise fit and solid connection - lens has no play, gap or wiggling when mounted on adapter and no adjustments are required to fit your lens.
    • Designed to reach infinity focus while maintaining the correct registration distance required to maintain optical quality of CRC lenses or lenses with floating elements.

Our Smart AdapterTM  series adapters have the following additional features

    • True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm - let camera automatically choose aperture in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes.
    • EXIF data such as lens identification, focal length and aperture.
